ORDINANCE NO. BL2006-1062

An ordinance amending the ability of taxicab drivers to discharge passengers in the farthest right lane of traffic when the curb is blocked by parked vehicles.

Whereas, Chapter 6.72 of the Metropolitan Code requires taxicab drivers to discharge passengers only where they may pull over adjacent to a curb; and

Whereas, the Transportation Licensing Commission recognizes that due to a large volume of parked vehicles. there is a paucity of available curb space within the downtown area at any given time; and

Whereas, it is therefore deemed necessary for the Metropolitan Government to make the following amendments to the taxicab regulations.

Now therefore, be it enacted by the Council of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County:

Section 1. Chapter 6.72 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws is amended by adding the following sentence immediately after the first sentence of section 6.72.340 : "As an exception, when access to curb space is blocked by parked vehicles, drivers may pull to the extreme right-hand lane, and stop to expeditiously receive or discharge passengers from the right side of the vehicle."

Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect from and after its final passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
