ORDINANCE NO. BL2005-717

An Ordinance amending Section 6.52.020 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws to allow an apprentice plumber to work under the direction of a master or journeyman plumber as an alternative to an apprenticeship program registered with the U.S. Department of Labor.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That Section 6.52.020 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws be and the same is hereby amended by deleting the definition of "Metropolitan apprentice plumber" and substituting in lieu thereof the following new definition:

"Metropolitan apprentice plumber" means an individual who holds a current and valid metropolitan apprentice plumber's license duly issued by the board of plumbing examiners and appeals; and
1. Is regularly employed as an apprentice by a registered and bonded metropolitan plumbing contractor and who works at the trade of plumbing under the direct supervision and in the immediate presence of a metropolitan master or journeyman plumber toward obtaining a minimum eight thousand hours of documented practical experience in the plumbing trade; or
2. Is enrolled in an apprenticeship program registered with the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training in accordance with the requirements of 29 C.F.R. § 29, or any nationally accredited apprenticeship program, and consists of, at a minimum, eight thousand hours of documented practical experience combined with a minimum of six hundred hours of classroom and/or shop instruction in the plumbing trade.

Section 2. This Ordinance shall take effect from and after its enactment, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
