ORDINANCE NO. BL2003-4
An ordinance amending Section 12.72.080 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws regarding the storage and removal requirements of stolen motor vehicles.
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Code of Laws requires the Metropolitan Police Department to notify all owners of stolen motor vehicles upon receipt of such vehicles at the Metropolitan tow-in lot; and
WHEREAS, the Code of Laws further provides that once an owner of a stolen vehicle is notified that the owner’s vehicle is at the tow-in lot, the owner has twenty-four hours to reclaim such vehicle and avoid paying a storage fee; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Code of Laws be amended to allow owners of stolen motor vehicles to have seventy-two hours to reclaim their vehicles without paying a storage fee.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That Section 12.72.080 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws be and the same is hereby amended as follows:
By deleting the phrase “twenty-four hours”, wherein it appears
in subsection A. and B., and substituting in lieu thereof the phrase “seventy-two
hours”.
By deleting subsection C. in its entirety.
Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
