An ordinance approving an increase in the basic rate charged by the division of emergency ambulance and rescue service for the transportation of patients to hospitals to $650.00 with an additional charge of $5.00 per mile effective January 1, 2004.

WHEREAS the cost of providing ambulance service has increased since the fee for the service was revised on November 29, 1995; and

WHEREAS, the federal government and some third party payors will now pay for the mileage costs separately from the basic rate incurred for transporting patients to hospitals; and

WHEREAS, the Advisory Committee of the Division of Emergency Ambulance and Rescue Service has approved and recommends that the basic rate charged by the Division of Emergency Ambulance and Rescue Service for the transportation of patients to hospitals be increased to $650.00 with an additional charge of $5.00 per mile for the mileage costs; and

WHEREAS, a fee of $650.00 with an additional charge of $5.00 per mile will not exceed the cost of providing ambulance service; and

WHEREAS, it is further recommended by the Advisory Committee of the Division of Emergency Ambulance and Rescue Service that the increase in the basic rate to $650.00 with an additional charge of $5.00 per mile become effective January 1, 2004 in order to coincide with the accounting period for Metropolitan Government; and

WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the Metropolitan Government to approve an increase in the basic rate charged by the Division of Emergency Ambulance and Rescue Service for the transportation of patients to hospitals to $650.00 with an additional $ 5.00 per mile effective January 1, 2004.

Now, therefore be it enacted by the Council of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County:

SECTION 1: That the basic rate charged by Division of Emergency Ambulance and Rescue Service for the transportation of patients to hospitals be increased to $650.00 with an additional charge of $5.00 per mile effective January 1, 2004.

SECTION 2: That this Ordinance shall take effect from and after its third and final passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.

Mr. President:

I move to amend Ordinance No. BL2003-114 as follows:

1. By deleting the phrase “effective January 1, 2004”, wherein it appears in the sixth recital clause and in Section 1.

2. By deleting the fifth recital clause in its entirety.
