ORDINANCE NO. BL99-52

An ordinance approving a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs to The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, acting through the State Trial Courts for the Drug Court Single Enhancement Initiative. 

Whereas, the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, has awarded a grant contract in an amount not to exceed eighty nine thousand eight hundred twenty five dollars ($89,825) to The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County’s State Trial Courts for drug court enhancement for adult nonviolent male and female offenders; and,

Whereas, it is to the benefit of the citizens of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that this grant be accepted;

Now, therefore, be it enacted by the Council of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County:

Section 1: That the grant contract between the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs and The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, acting through the State Trial Courts for the drug court enhancement for adult nonviolent male and female offenders, from June 1, 1999 to May 31, 2001, a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein, is hereby approved, and the Metropolitan Mayor is authorized to execute the same.

Section 2: That the sum of twenty nine thousand nine hundred forty two dollars ($29,942) be provided for the purpose of providing the Metropolitan Government’s share for the program.

Section 3: That amendments to the grant contract referenced herein shall be approved by resolution of the Metropolitan Council receiving twenty-one affirmative votes.

Section 4: That this Ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
