ORDINANCE NO. BL2003-1354

An ordinance amending Title 11, Chapter 11.20 of the Metropolitan Code to provide that it shall be unlawful for the Metropolitan Government to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation in employment practices.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVENRMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the codification of Title 11 of the Code of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, Fair Employment and Housing, be and the same is hereby amended as follows:

  1. By amending Section 11.20.020 Definitions by adding the following new
    definition:
  2. “‘Sexual orientation’ means homosexuality, bisexuality, or heterosexuality, whether the orientation is real or perceived.”
  3. By adding the following new Section to Chapter 11.20:
  4. 11.20.130 Metropolitan government prohibited from discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation.
    It is an unlawful practice for the metropolitan government to fail or refuse to hire or promote, or to discharge any individual, or otherwise to discriminate against an individual with respect to compensation, terms, conditions, or privileges of employment because of such individual’s sexual orientation.”

Section 2. That this Ordinance shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
