ORDINANCE NO. BL2002-1174

An ordinance authorizing the Police Department of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County to accept the donation of an Abduction Central Alert software program from the Child Alert Foundation.


WHEREAS, the Child Alert Foundation is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to assisting law enforcement in notification of missing and abducted children; and

WHEREAS, the immediate notification to all law enforcement and the public through television, radio, news media, faxes, pagers and posters within a 100-mile radius is vital to effective notification; and

WHEREAS, Abduction Central Alert software, developed for the Child Alert Foundation, is a fully automated system, valued at $10,000, that alerts all participating law agencies, media and support organizations within a 100-mile radius of a reported abduction within minutes; and

WHEREAS, the Child Alert Foundation has offered to provide to the Metropolitan Government the Abduction Central Alert software program on a CD with a manual to be installed by the Metro Nashville Police Department at no cost to Metro; and

WHEREAS, it is deemed to be in the best interest of the Metropolitan Government to authorize the acceptance of the donation.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Police Department of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County is hereby authorized to accept the donation of the Abduction Central Alert Software from the Child Alert Foundation.

Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
