ORDINANCE NO. BL2002-1167
An
ordinance to amend Metropolitan Code of Laws Section 15.16.240, 15.16.260,
15.16.270, and 15.16.290 by removing the approval of lead water pipes and
galvanized water pipes for installation in the public distribution system.
WHEREAS, the installation of lead water pipe is no longer permitted under Federal and State law, in public water supplies; and
WHEREAS, galvanized iron is undesirable as a water pipe material between the public main and the water meter; and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the Metropolitan Government to amend Sections 15.16.240, 15.16.260, 15.16.270, and 15.16.290 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws referencing to lead and galvanized pipe; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY.
SECTION 1. That
Metropolitan Code §15.16.240 (A) be replaced with the following:
A. All water
service pipes three inches in diameter and under shall be copper from the main
to the water meter. For pipes less than two inches in diameter, the copper pipe
must be Type K, and for pipes between two inches and three inches in diameter
the copper must be Type L.
SECTION 2. That Metropolitan Code §15.16.240 (B) is amended by deleting this code section in its entirety.
SECTION 3. That
Metropolitan Code §15.16.240 (C) be amended by re-labeling this as paragraph “B”
and replaced with the following:
B. All service pipes larger than three
inches in diameter must be ductile iron material with a minimum rating of Class
52 in accordance with the American Waterworks Association
specifications.
SECTION 4. That Metropolitan Code §15.16.240 (D) is amended by deleting this code section in its entirety.
SECTION 5. That Metropolitan Code §15.16.240 (E) is amended by re-labeling this as paragraph “C”.
SECTION 6. That Metropolitan Code §15.16.260 is amended by deleting this code section in its entirety.
SECTION 7. That Metropolitan Code §15.16.270 is amended by deleting this code section in its entirety.
SECTION 8. The
Metropolitan Code §15.16.290 is to be replaced with the following:
Approved
pipe for connection to the public water system shall be on the job site ready
for inspection before any tap to the main shall be made by the department. This
shall apply to run-to-curb connections and connections on which no meter is set
at the time service is run from the main to within the curb line.
SECTION 9. This ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requires it.
