ORDINANCE NO. BL2001-876

An ordinance authorizing the Police Department of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County to make donations to the Tennessee Police Athletic League.

Whereas, the Tennessee Police Athletic League is a not-for-profit service organization devoted to the development of sports programs for children of Nashville and Davidson County; and,

Whereas, the sports programs of the Tennessee Police Athletic League promote citizenship and discourage the use of drugs and other criminal behavior; and,

Whereas, the Metropolitan Police Department works closely with the Nashville area Police Athletic League and desires to assist the program with donations of money, services, and equipment to the Tennessee Police Athletic League; and,

Whereas, the continuation of the Police Athletic League Program and the continuation of support are in the best interest of Nashville and Davidson County.

Now, therefore, be it enacted by the Metropolitan Council of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that:

Section 1. The Police Department of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County is hereby authorized to make donations of money, goods, services, and other valuable gifts to the Tennessee Police Athletic League.

Section 2. In order to be eligible for continued assistance beyond the first year, the Police Athletic League, must receive an unqualified audit on complete full accrual financial statements by June 30 each year. The Metropolitan Police Department shall not make any donation of money, goods, or services beyond one year after the effective date of this ordinance, unless the Police Athletic League has obtained an unqualified audit of the organization's complete full accrual financial statements by a qualified and independent accounting firm approved by the director of finance.

Section 3. The amount and form of the donations of money, goods, services and other valuable gifts provided to the Police Athletic League each year by the Police Department shall be annually approved by resolution of the Council.

Section 4. The use by the Police Athletic League of Metropolitan-owned property shall be accomplished by the execution of lease agreements in accordance with prescribed procedures. Any construction by the Police Athletic League must be done with the approval of the Metropolitan Government and under such terms and conditions as the Metropolitan Government and its agencies and/or departments may impose.

Section 5. This ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
