ORDINANCE NO. BL2001-722

An ordinance to accept grant funds in the amount of $150, 000 from the United States Department of Treasury to the Metropolitan Police Department of Nashville and Davidson County under the G.R.E.A.T. cooperative agreement.

Whereas, the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) desires to cooperate with local law enforcement agencies in the operation of a gang prevention program known as Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T.); and

Whereas, The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, acting through the Metropolitan Police Department, desires to cooperate with the ATF in the operation of such a gang prevention program in accordance with the established guidelines of the G.R.E.A.T. program, during the period January 16, 2001 through January 31, 2002; and

Whereas the ATF has committed grant funds in the amount of $150,000 to fund the Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County Police Department's participation in the G.R.E.A.T. program; and
Whereas, the G.R.E.A.T. grant requires no expenditure of Metropolitan Government matching funds.

Now, therefore, be it enacted by the Council of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that:

Section 1. The grant from the United States Department of Treasury to The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, acting through the Metropolitan Police Department, in the amount of $150,000, a copy of which is attached hereto titled Cooperative Agreement No. ATC010136, is accepted, and the Metropolitan Mayor is authorized to execute the contract documents.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Police Department is authorized to spend sums appropriated from that grant in furtherance of the G.R.E.A.T. program.

Section 3. Any amendments or extensions of this grant agreement shall be approved by resolution approved by 21 affirmative votes of the Metropolitan Council.

Section 4. This ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
