ORDINANCE NO. BL2001-710

An ordinance amending Article II of Chapter 2.04 of the Metropolitan Code relating to Standards for Ethical Conduct by requiring annual disclosures by members of council of the receipt of certain benefits and gifts.

WHEREAS, there is need to provide a reporting system of the receipt of certain benefits and gifts received by members of council so that there can be a public disclosure to assist in assuring ethical conduct.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. Article II of Chapter 2.04 of the Metropolitan Code is hereby amended by adding the following new section:

"Section 2.04.140 Annual Disclosure of benefits received by Members of Council

Not later than February 15 of each year, each member of council and the vice mayor shall file with the metropolitan clerk on a form provided by the metropolitan clerk the disclosure of all benefits and/or gifts received in the previous calendar year by a member of council or the vice mayor which has a value of one hundred dollars ($100) or more. Benefits and/or gifts received from related family members or from the metropolitan governments, its departments, boards, commissions, authorities, and agencies are specifically excluded from this disclosure requirement. For the calendar year 2001, disclosures received from and after July 1, 2001 through the remainder of the year shall be disclosed."

SECTION 2. This Ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
