ORDINANCE NO. BL2001-626

An ordinance approving a grant agreement for the grant of $557,241.06 from Workforce Essentials, Inc. to the Metropolitan Government, through the Nashville Career Advancement Center, for services under the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 and the American Competitiveness and Workforce Improvement Act of 1998.

Whereas, the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 superceded the Job Training Partnership Act and provides federal funding to train and assist displaced workers; and,

Whereas the American Competitiveness and Workforce Improvement Act of 1998 provides federal funding to assist American workers in acquiring skills to compete for jobs in technical occupations with a high demand for workers; and,

Whereas, Workforce Essentials, Inc. is a Tennessee not-for-profit corporation that has funds available for grants under the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 and the American Competitiveness and Workforce Improvement Act of 1998; and,

Whereas, the Nashville Career Advancement Center (N.C.A.C.), a division of the Mayor's Office, has made a proposal to Workforce Essentials, Inc. to provide funding for training and other services under the above-referenced federal acts; and,


Whereas, Workforce Essentials, Inc. and N.C.A.C. have agreed to the terms of such a grant to provide services in Davidson County and other counties in the eight-county Nashville Metropolitan statistical area in a manner consistent with the regional approach to services required by the Workforce Investment Act of 1998.


NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY THAT:

Section. 1. That the Grant Agreement from Workforce Essentials, Inc. to The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, by and through the Nashville Career Advancement Center, for services under the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 and the American Competitiveness and Workforce Improvement Act of 1998, in the amount of $557,241.06, and for a term beginning on January 1, 2001 and continuing through December 31, 2002, be and the same is hereby approved and the Metropolitan Mayor is authorized to execute said Grant Agreement.

Section 2. That any amendment to the Grant Agreement may be approved by Resolution of the Council receiving twenty-one (21) votes.

Section 3. That this Ordinance shall take effect from and after its enactment, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
