ORDINANCE NO. BL2000-416

An ordinance approving a grant from the State of Tennessee, Department of Finance and Administration, Office of Criminal Justice Programs, to The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, acting through the General Sessions Court for a Mental Health Court.

Whereas, the State of Tennessee, Department of Finance and Administration, Office of Criminal Justice Programs, has awarded a grant in an amount not to exceed one hundred sixty thousand three hundred seventy two dollars ($160,372) to the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, acting through the General Sessions Court for the establishment of a Mental Health Court to address the problems of defendants who are mentally ill or developmentally disabled; and

Whereas, it is to the benefit of the citizens of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that this grant be accepted.

Now, therefore, be it enacted by the Metropolitan Council of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County:

Section 1. That the grant by and between the State of Tennessee, Department of Finance and Administration, Office of Criminal Justice Programs and The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, acting through General Sessions Court, for the establishment of a Mental Health Court to address the problems of defendants who are mentally ill or developmentally disabled, in an amount not to exceed one hundred sixty thousand three hundred seventy two dollars ($160,372) a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein, is hereby approved, and the Metropolitan County Mayor is authorized to execute the same.

Section 2. That the sum of thirteen thousand three hundred sixty five dollars ($13,365) be provided each year for the next four years, for the purpose of providing the Metropolitan Government’s matching share for the program.

Section 3. That any amendments to this Grant shall be approved by resolution of the Metropolitan Council receiving twenty-one affirmative votes.

Section 4. That this Ordinance shall take effect from and after its final passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
