ENACTED 06/22/1999

SUBSTITUTE ORDINANCE NO. SO99-1667

A substitute ordinance approving a contract by and between The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County and the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce for the promotion of tourism and convention business and the expenditure of funds.

Whereas, Chapter 704 of the Public Acts of 1976, as passed by the 89th General Assembly of Tennessee, authorized counties having a metropolitan form of government to establish a tourism commission for the purpose of promoting tourism and convention-related activities; and

Whereas, Bill No. 76-143, as passed the Council of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, established a tourism commission for the purpose of promoting tourist and convention business within the metropolitan area; and

Whereas, the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce has submitted a proposal to the Metropolitan Tourism and Convention Commission for the purpose of providing services promoting tourism and convention business with the metropolitan area; and

Whereas, the Chamber has agreed to implement the program in exchange for funding that is available to the Metropolitan Government, the majority from the Hotel-Motel Occupancy Tax funds collected in combination with certain funds, which the Chamber will provide; and

Whereas, the Hotel-Motel Occupancy Tax was recently increased by one cent, the increased funds to be spent for the purpose of promoting tourist and convention businesses within the metropolitan area and the contract between the Metropolitan Government and the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce needs to reflect this increase in revenue.

Now, therefore, be it enacted by the Council of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County:

Section 1: That the contract between The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County and the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce, a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein, is hereby approved, and the Metropolitan Mayor is authorized to execute the same.

Section 2: Any amendments to the Contract may be approved by a resolution of the Metropolitan Council that receives at least twenty-one affirmative votes.

Section 3: That this substitute ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
