ORDINANCE NO. O99-1591

An ordinance amending Section 2.62.010B of the Metropolitan Code of Laws by expanding the authority of the Mayor's Office of Film and Special Events to include the authority to initiate, promote, finance, obtain sponsorship for and execute special events.

Whereas, the Mayor's Office of Film and Special Events was established "to promote economic development in the metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County area by facilitating the development and growth of film and special events," as is set forth in Section 2.62.010 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws; and,

Whereas, the authority of the Mayor's Office of Film and Special Events includes the authority to sponsor selected special events with in-kind support, as is set forth in Section 2.62.010 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws; and,

Whereas, in Section 2.62.020 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws the Metropolitan Council recognizes that The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County initiates, promotes, finances and executes special events by defining "metropolitan events" as "public events directly related to a recognized function of the metropolitan government and which are in substantial part initiated, financed and executed by the city," but does not include any authority for the initiation, financing and execution of such events by the city; and,

Whereas, it is in the public interest and in support of economic development for the Metropolitan Government to initiate, promote, finance, obtain sponsorship for and execute special events, in addition to sponsoring special events with in-kind support; and,

Whereas, it is in the interest of the citizens of the Metropolitan Government for the Mayor's Office of Film and Special Events to have the authority to initiate, promote, finance, obtain sponsorship for and execute special events;

Now, Therefore, be it enacted by the Metropolitan Council of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County:

Section 1. That Section 2.62.010 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws be and hereby is amended by the addition of the following subsection B.6.:

6. Initiating, promoting, financing, obtaining sponsorship for and executing special events.

Section 2. That this ordinance shall become effective from and after its passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
