ORDINANCE NO. O98-1433

An ordinance approving a drug control and systems improvement grant contract for the Metropolitan Public Defender with the State of Tennessee, Department of Finance and Administration and providing matching funds in the amount of $13,125.00 for a Spanish-speaking investigator.

Whereas, the State of Tennessee, Department of Finance and Administration, has awarded a grant contract in an amount not to exceed thirty-nine thousand three hundred seventy-five dollars ($39,375.00) annually for four (4) years totaling one hundred fifty-seven thousand five hundred and 00/100 dollars ($157,500.00) for the Metropolitan Public Defender for a Spanish-speaking investigator and,

Whereas, the Metropolitan Government is required under said grant contract to provide annual matching funds in the amount of thirteen thousand one hundred twenty-five dollars ($ 13,125.00); and,

Whereas, it is to the benefit of the citizens of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that this grant be accepted;

Now, therefore, be it enacted by the Council of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County:

Section 1: That the grant contract between the State of Tennessee and The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County for a Spanish-speaking investigator (Grant Number 99DG103) for the Metropolitan Public Defender Office, from July 1, 1998 to June 30, 2002, a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein, is hereby approved, and the Metropolitan Mayor is authorized to execute the same.

Section 2: That matching funds in the amount of thirteen thousand one hundred twenty-five dollars ($13,125.00) be provided for the purpose of providing the Metropolitan Government’s matching share for the program.

Section 3: That amendments to the grant contract referenced herein shall be approved by resolution of the Metropolitan Council receiving twenty-one affirmative votes.

Section 4: That this Ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
