AN ORDINANCE APPROVING A JOINT FUNDING AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR, GEOLOGICAL SURVEY, AND THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY, DEPART-MENT OF WATER AND SEWERAGE SERVICES, FOR THE PERIOD OCTOBER 1, 1997 TO SEPTEMBER 30, 1998, FOR THE OPERATION OF STREAM FLOW GAUGING STATIONS, THE CUMBERLAND RIVER (UVM) AND CUMBERLAND RIVER WATER QUALITY SAMPLING AND MONITORING SITES IN DAVIDSON COUNTY.
WHEREAS,
The Metropolitan Government's Department of
Water and Sewerage Services uses stream flow on a periodic basis
to evaluate the water quality impacts due to the operation of
its water and wastewater facilities; and
WHEREAS,
the Combined Sewer Overflow area needs accurate
detailed information to evaluate the time and duration of potential
discharges to the streams; and
WHEREAS,
the United States Department of the Interior,
Geological Survey, has agreed to fund the cost of installation
and/or operation of the six (6) flow gauging stations, the Cumberland
River (UVM) and two (2) Cumberland River water quality sampling
and monitoring sites, provided that Metro pays 50% of the total
cost.
NOW, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT
OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1: That the agreement for the installation
and/or operation of flow gauging stations, the Cumberland River
(UVM) and two (2) Cumberland River water quality sampling and
monitoring sites, Metro Project No. 98-SG-2 in Davidson County,
between The United States Department of the Interior, Geological
Survey, and The Metropolitan Government, Department of Water and
Sewerage Services, a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated
herein, is hereby approved and all necessary officials of The
Metropolitan Government are authorized to execute the same.
SECTION 2: That any amendments, renewals
or extensions of the terms of the agreement described in Section
1. beyond those contained therein shall be approved by Resolution
of the Metropolitan Council.
SECTION 3: That this Ordinance shall take
effect from and after its passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan
Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
